• Provide a safe and encouraging environment for children in their charge
• Take children seriously and encourage their responsibility
• Involve children in care taking activities; teach them to care for others
• Encourage children to focus their attention on other children instead of on the caretaker
• Encourage unity by creating history and rituals together
• Consider children as part of the “working” team
• Give children as much freedom as possible while playing with other children; avoid unnecessary rules and involvement from caretakers
• Clearly formulate moral rules that are understandable for the children
• Evaluate both own and the children’s behavior regularly
